*There were a couple of scenes that were graphic and may not be suited for most readers*Emma aka Jane leads an ordinary life working at an animal shelter. When she’s not busy with work, she spends time with her new man, Will. Emma’s normal life is shattered when she begins receiving mysterious notes threatening to reveal her new identity. As more notes and strange incidents occur, Jane is forced to reveal a part of her past she wanted to keep hidden.
The story does a good job of exploring the incidents of the past that caused Emma to change her identity. Although, it may seem far-fetched, you can understand Emma’s reason for wanting to start a new life.
What makes the book stand out is how it switches between the past and present. I thought that was a great way to show the past events and how they led to the current situation. Another thing that really stood out for me is the characters. I liked how the author wrote them to include a troubling aspect of their past, and how that altered the course of their friendship.
There were certain chapters that I thought went on too long, but aside from that The Lie is a suspenseful book with lots of plot twists.

The Lie eBook CL Taylor Reviews
I enjoy chicklit and I love a good thriller - this page turner gave me both. The characters were believable and I found myself on edge for Emma several times. I liked the settings of both the "retreat" and the animal sanctuary. I also enjoyed The Accident by the same author. A gripping read.
This book was okay, I didn't think it was suspenseful enough for my taste. I wouldn't read this author again.
This is by far the best book that I have read this year! I felt like I was there and knew the characters personally. Fresh new story line. I was hooked from the first page to the last.
Overall I liked the book and would recommend it to a friend, but I rated it a 3 just because I've read so many good books lately. If I was scoring them 4 & 5, then this is 3. It just wasn't suite as good .
This was a story about a girl who is trying to escape her past. She has built a new life for herself and it`s a good life. But the events of the past have come back to haunt her. The story is told in the present and jumps back to tell what happened five years in the past. The writing is well done, but the story wasn`t very surprising.
I absolutely loved this book! I could not put it down (don't you love that about thrillers). Five years ago, four friends went on a girls trip to Nepal and traveled to a beautiful mountaintop retreat. Except Jane and Al return home without two friends who mysteriously disappeared. And Jane is not her real name, she created a new identity to leave the past behind her. Until someone starts sending her anonymous messages knowing who she really is.
Each chapter alternates between the past and the present, and the end of each chapter leaves you with cliffhangers. It was a little frustrating having to read an interim chapter before finding out what happened, but it kept you wanting to read more. And the alternating did add to the thrill and mystery of the novel. I had no idea where the novel was heading once the girls arrived at the retreat. Interesting plot with interesting twists, but the ending fell a little flat in my opinion. The whole book led up to something greater and it didn't pull through. Still a great read!

Psychological thrillers are a whole new genre for me and I'm worried I might be addicted. The Lie by C.L. Taylor was certainly no help.
Following two timelines with one narrator, The Lie tells the story of Jane Hughes. It alternates between her current, quiet life as an animal shelter worker and the harrowing tale of her journey to Nepal with three friends.
This story has all the things I am learning to love about a good psychological thriller - an ominous setting, an unknown villain, and creepy mystery throughout. I simply could not put it down!
While I can't handle the graphic violence in horror novels, the few incidents described in this books were intense, but no so much that it was going to give me nightmares. Don't get me wrong, there are scary parts, but they are not prurient.
